Demand Response Programs by North America Power Partners
North America Power Partners (NAPP) is a leading provider of Demand Response resources across the United States. We enable our customers to participate in a range of programs, including peak capacity, spinning reserves, and self scheduled energy. Our demand response solutions include advanced metering with web based reporting tools as well as engineering audits, automation and controls.
NAPP operates in the competitive energy market and has been able to differentiate itself from its competition by its commitment to quality, technical expertise, technology solutions, quick response, and measurable energy fees and emission reductions.
NAPP is a visionary leader in our industry. We have the technical proficiency to design and develop SMART RESPONSE TM programs that are essential to a “Smart Grid” while creating Demand Response solutions to meet the evolving global climate challenge. Our team of experts will help you to develop and maximize your site’s demand response potential. With a commitment to customer service and satisfaction, NAPP works for and with its clients to deliver efficient and effective demand response services when it’s needed most.
The research we have conducted has indicated that there are opportunities for our company to exploit its strengths by addressing the most prevalent energy issues: high energy costs, energy reliability, environmental concerns, and GHG emission risks. Demand Response is a viable tool that directly addresses these issues.
NAPP’S SMART RESPONSETM PHILOSOPHY
Electric power generation and delivery systems have remained unchanged over the past forty years. The same
inefficient systems continue to produce and move electricity to meet our nation’s ever-growing demand for power, while becoming the dominant source of air pollution.
Today, electric utilities typically outsource their demand response participation through demand response service providers such as NAPP. Demand response service providers install software and hardware that communicate with the client’s online energy management systems. In some cases, they also control the client’s electric power requirements as needed.
NAPP and its participating clients provide a reliable, predictable amount of power (megawatts) that the ISOs and RTOs (the wholesale electric market) can count on during an emergency, when energy supplies are low, or when there is an inadequate amount of available power generation.
Overall, NAPP programs provide clients with an ultimate strategic asset management plan that allows industrial and commercial facilities to efficiently manage energy consumption and move excess capacity into the grid.
Since electricity cannot be stored in large quantities, excess generation always needs to be available. By being available to shift electric usage or reduce a portion of electric usage a few times per year, NAPP clients help increase grid reliability and prevent blackouts simply by being “available” and “on-call” when the electrical grid needs it most.
NAPP’s SMART RESPONSETM programs provide valuable new resources to the national electric grid while reducing energy costs, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing an additional annual revenue stream for our customers. Our technology-enabled DR programs produce long term reliable and repeatable DR resources. Our products give us a competitive edge because our competitors are primarily only in the Capacity markets and focused heavily on generation solutions. NAPP excels by offering its Reserves Programs, developing load reduction based resources and in managing our customers’ assets and risk.
NAPP’s SMART RESPONSETM VISION
In the future, NAPP expects that the market will require direct control and/or automated DR along with advanced metering in order to qualify the resources. This will also facilitate “smart grid” enabled DR. NAPP’s approach is already consistent with these proposed future requirements. NAPP will expand its offerings to include a greater analytic and reporting capability of historical market data and forecasts; increased customer performance data and historical records; industry news and regulatory reports; in house technology solutions; enhanced bidding applications and settlement processing and reporting.
In addition to our current services, NAPP plans to provide the following services in the not so distant future:
- Price Analysis and Forecasting
- On Line customer performance and detailed historical record reporting
- Industry news and regulatory reports
- In-house technology solutions
- Enhanced bidding applications and settlement processing and reporting
- In house engineering and assessments
- Enhanced metering solutions
- Direct control of DR resources
- GHG emissions trading
